The ultimate rugged phone meets the most brutal blender

01a.jpg

The most ancient analogy for a situation such as this is the story of some blacksmith who sold spears and shields. His claim was that both his spears and shields were unbeatable; and the irony of his claim came forward when his goods met each other. Such is the case of the toughest phone in the world from Sonim and the Blendtec blender that is the toughest ever, coming head on. The phone used is the Sonim XP3300. Well, the video will tell you the tale of a phone that did take some beating but managed to prevail with some notable damage, mainly, as scratches. Video after the jump.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt1fNKhQdKk&feature=player_embedded

Have fun watching the video and make sure you do not try this at home. At the end of the day it's a bloody battery in between this mess that will cause nasty occurrences.

Huge paintball machine with 840 guns blasts images in seconds

Huge-paintball-machine-1.jpg

At the first instance, this apparatus looks more lethal than any fun. As of matter of fact, it is actually a gigantic paintball machine with 840 guns that can blast images onto a wall. V energy drink earlier came up with a commercial which had this contraption mounted on the back of truck. When the operator pushes the button, all the paint balls fly out at one time and thus a portrait with a color splash is made. It does nothing more than making a giant art project in one messy go. The gun weighs 3.1tonne and is presently kept at Auckland's Aotea Square in New Zealand.

Android working on an app to compete with BBM and iMessage

google-talk.jpg
Google is rumored to be working on its own messenger service, just like that of BlackBerry and Apple, but details are very sparse right now. It is expected that Google will offer more than its existing Google Talk or other IM services. As of now, its mobile operating system, Android only relies on third-party apps like Whatsapp and Liveprofile and this new project might lure away BBM users. Google is yet to give out an official word on the same.

You would agree that this one’s a perfectly functional Italian Job star

04.jpg

The Italian Job is a renowned movie based on a crime scene on the narrow streets of Italy. The highlight of the movie lies in the Mini Cooper that escapes cop-trap by trashing the garbage cans on the side-walk. This feature of the Cooper being petite and fast has been brought to life in the new edition by the Bulgarian design company Vilner. The outside of the bespoke “Italian Job” is a sleek silver paint that shimmers when the car speeds up. The top and trim are a magnificent contrast to the silver in matte black. The new interiors of this Cooper S conversion are seats of diamond-quilted Nappa leather, two-tone Alcantara coverings for the inner roof and pillar that offer oomph for the driver.

The cost is not yet unveiled but abiding by the theme of the Italian Job, the buyers might have to rob a bank.

The Sony SLT-A35 Alpha Digital SLR Camera is set to own Panasonic on most counts

03.JPG

Here’s good news for all the lovers of Sony DSLR. Sony has announced A35, a DSLR combined with the features of the beloved A33 and A55 that gives a knock in the face to its previous models. This model has been designed keeping both the generations of photographers in mind i.e. amateurs and professionals. The ultra small built loaded with features like that of Translucent Mirror Technology and a splendid 7fps steals the cake. This feature is quite paradoxical to the professionals that use larger lenses as getting a grip becomes an issue. Compared to the biggies in the market like Canon Rebel edition and Panasonic Lumix, Sony A35 is a deal that not only fits the budget but also offers the same or more features than that of the competitors. Sony’s A35 offers 16.2megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with an extremely detailed picture. This doesn’t amplify noise reduction while shooting HD videos. Tele zoom high speed shooting makes it debut in A35 that allows for a small portion magnification of 1.4x while shooting at 7fps. An indistinctive ISO expands from 100 -12800 offered by the rest of the competitors. The rapid 5.5fps drive mode offers full-resolution continues shooting with an image range of 18 jpeg to 6 Raw. Sony A35 offers a high contrast image with full 100% field coverage on the LCD. Accurate composition of landscapes, architecture and other scenes is enhanced by 3 selectable grid line patterns

The A35 camera with Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology allows responsive, accurate continuous autofocus - whether shooting high-speed still photos or recording full HD movies. It is at 15-pt phase-detection and 3 cross-type.A35 speeds up to 1/4000 to 30secs and bulb; 1/160 x-sync. With 49 zone metering is quite disappointing as compared to the A55 that offers 1200 zone. It shoots videos of AVCHD 1080/60i @ 17Mbps; H.264 MPEG-4 1440x1080 /30p at 12Mbps. With a battery life that lasts 420 shots it surely is a win from A55 that offers 330 shots. In the body operating weight category, the Lumix wins here with 11.8 (est) while A35 is 16.1. The cost with kit is $700 and without it, $600.

Acer introduces TimelineX laptop with Sandy Bridge power for $178

01.jpg

Acer knows that those who would make the most of Intel's Sandy Bridge processor-powered systems, needn't necessarily have to be those who can juggle four digit price tags as if they tea bags. So, they've given us the TimelineX series of laptops that can help bring in the agility of the awesome processor without spending much. The 13.3-inch model packs Nvidia GT540M graphics driver, and Dolby audio. The best part is that all this can be run with the powerful Intel Core i5 processor. If you want to save even more then you can go in for less powerful ones that give you size options of 14- and 15.6-inch variants.
The 13.3-inch model could cost you $780, while the 14-inch and 15.6-inch models would cost $700 and $600 respectively. The cheaper they go the bigger the screens get.

Japanese astronaut sets out to grow space cucumbers

cucumber.jpg

The idea of ‘moving-out’ to the space has been enough toyed around by people, either through movies like Wall-E or creative writing. The Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa wants to see how feasible this could be by attempting to grow cucumbers. He would do this right when is on board the International Space Station and believes that this would make him learn about the possibility of harvesting food when in space. He’d begin to experiment with cucumber first.

The scientist wants to study what effect the absence of gravity has on growing food. With his colleagues Russian Sergei Volkov and American Michael Fossum, the Japanese will be taking the trip skywards on Wednesday for his 6-month long mission. Apart from cucumbers, they’ll also grow some tomatoes. These men also were excited with the idea of being able to eat a cucumber tomato salad made from the veggies harvested by them for they are otherwise not allowed to eat them onboard. I wonder how these veggies are going to taste and what price will the rich guys cough up to actually have them as a souvenir.

Microsoft unveils wireless Xbox 360 steering wheel

Microsoft-wireless-Xbox-360-steering-wheel-1.jpg
Here’s yet another peripheral bound to have you stuck on to your seat, as you lose interest in driving cars, instead opting to vroom around in some pretty asphalt burners with Forza Motorsport 4. By Microsoft, this pretty wheel keeps away the limitations of being hooked on with a wire, instead going the cable-less way. Reminiscent more of a space-craft joystick than a car’s steering wheel, the wireless Xbox 360 wheel is sure to keep you seated for considerably long amounts of time, steering your way around race tracks. Microsoft has clearly meant this one to go well with Forza 4, and claim that the wheel is entirely capable of working well with current driving games, though a few limitations might occur.

Sony launches 3D pack for three-dimensional gaming

Sony-ps3dtv.jpg
For all those who’ve been drooling around 3D technology and have been held back simply because of the astronomical price tags these screens come with, Sony has come up with a package that includes all that’s required to give you a true-to-blood 3D experience, for $499. Complete with a 3D monitor, one pair of 3D glasses, a copy of Resistance 3 and a six foot HDMI cable, this one will fit right into your bachelor pad and is sure to have your beer guzzling mates piling around it, waiting to have a go at it.

And the best part, Sony has cleverly had this one enable two-player game play without splitting the screen. Using 3D tech, the monitor makes sure player one see’s just his screen while player two sees his own, without catching a glimpse of player one’s screen and vice versa! Beat that!

Apple’s iMessage push message service to vie BBM

Apple’s-iMessage-1.jpg
And just when BlackBerry lovers begin giggling away at Nokia’s lame attempt at a messenger that should’ve, though failed to, give the BBM service a run for its money, Apple decided to step in and shoulder RIM too, with its iMessage service. Capable to function smoothly on just about any iOS device, this one enables users to send pictures, messages, videos and contacts too, just like the good old indispensible BlackBerry Messenger. That’s not all. Kicking RIM square in the place where it hurts the most, the iMessage also works with WiFi and 3G and also includes the delivery and read confirmations, just like BBM.  [Engadget]

Apple’s-iMessage-5.jpgApple’s-iMessage-4.jpgBut then again, those who swear by BBM like myself, will live with it, and just hope RIM comes up with something good enough in the future to push the Apple messenger service back where it belongs!

Samsung may bring Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart by June 22nd

05.jpg
Samsung is getting something good for us to relish this June. It's a pair of phones that seem to be good, new buys for those looking for more options in the Froyo and Gingerbread space. The Exhibit 4G will pack Android 2.3 and give us some good HSPA+ action above 21 Mbps. The Gravity will sport the running into void Android 2.2 and will serve as your typical entry-level QWERTY slider. We've now got some word on the release date of both phones (after the jump) and we're torn into believing it to be true or just a rumor.

The date says this month, in fact, 22nd June. We're excited to see Samsung keeping the flame alive on phones that are not flagships as well.

HTC ChaCha to get processor upgrade

01.jpg

It took some brainstorming to come up with the name ChaCha. It's not the dance really, since that has a third Cha. Yet, the phone that was first on our hit list at MWC where it made its gracious presence felt, is treated with utmost respect by HTC. Apparently, the Gingerbread-powered Facebook-centric phone seems to have a recent upgrade, in the form of a CPU. The current Qualcomm processor is an 800MHz one as against the previous 600MHz installation that we heard of. News for you? I doubt.
The dedicated Facebook key seems to be the answer to the specialty of the phone. Now, this report from ITProPortal means it's got a 33% performance upping.

LG and Samsung shine out in the list of top lowest radiation emitting cellphones

lowest-radiation-emitting-cellphones.jpg

Even the word lifeblood is too little to explain the importance of cell phones in our lives. You don’t have to be a big shot business magnate or the president to justify the use of cell phone. You just have to be a part of this mad digital world where technology defines everything. Just last week a panel of experts at WHO reported that ubiquitous hand-held phones are pretty carcinogenic to humans. They emit radio-frequency waves which when absorbed by the human body prove harmful for they can lead to brain cancer. Obviously the absorption is directly proportional to your phone usage. Other factor that have a direct nexus with absorption rates include the model of the phone used, using the hands-free device, distance and path to the nearest cell phone tower and the volume of cell phone traffic.

The authorities have also come up with a standard called Specific absorption rate (SAR) and FCC now requires cell phone makers to report the SAR level of their devices. The upper cap on acceptable levels is less than or equal to 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg). We know it’s impossible to give up mobile phone use entirely, but a list of top 10 lowest radiation emitting cell phones that will help you in making a good choice for your health.
1. LG Quantum (AT&T): 0.35 W/kg
2. Casio EXILIM (Verizon Wireless): 0.53 W/kg
3. Pantech Breeze II (AT&T, AT&T GoPhone): 0.55 W/kg
4. Sanyo Katana II (Kajeet): 0.55 W/kg
5. Samsung Fascinate (Verizon Wireless): 0.57 W/kg
6. Samsung Mesmerize (Galaxy S) (CellularONE, U.S. Cellular): 0.57 W/kg
7. Samsung SGH-a197 (AT&T GoPhone): 0.59 W/kg
8. Samsung Contour (MetroPCS): 0.60 W/kg
9. Samsung Gravity T (SGH-T669) (T-Mobile): 0.62 W/kg
10. Samsung SGH-T249 (T-Mobile): 0.63 W/kg
With the peak position donned by LG, we mostly have another Korean giant, Samsung, crowding the list here. What happened to the much-hyped iPhone series?

Windows logo shows up on soon-to-open Apple store

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-DwKYcy7cQ&feature=player_embedded

Microsoft fans sure know how to tickle Apple’s patience and have probably gone a step ahead with that too. In an act of could-be vandalism, a bunch of “pranksters” as pro-Microsoft have termed them, propped up a Microsoft Windows logo outside a soon-to-open Apple store in Hamburg, Germany. Luckily for the Store, this act of playfulness didn’t including a bunch of spray paint cans that could’ve led to be a lot more disastrous. The pinned up logo however is enough to have the Apple guys out there red-faced for some time now!

Danish Non-Profit Makes and Demo-es $69,000 Worth One-Man Rocket

Heat-1X.jpg
Whenever you might have fancied going on the moon, the scenery would normally include a lot of other people on your rocket or spaceship. But what if you were given a choice to go all by yourself in a one-seater rocket? The sound of this might make you feel that I am probably having delusions. No, I am not. Here comes the Heat-1X, the rocket built by Danish nonprofit Copenhagen Suborbitals and can carry just one person aboard.
for video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmGmymAWI4E&feature=player_embedded

One thing that had a jaw-dropping effect on me is the fact that it just took $69,000 to make this one. If you were to really think, this is hell lot cheaper than a plethora of those jazzy convertibles on earth. The makers have already demonstrated that this could really fly and there is going to be a hair dryer like apparatus to provide the heat inside the rocket. The demonstration wasn’t exactly bang-on. There were a few cracks like the rocket didn’t go too far into the sky. As reported this one toured only 2 kilometers as against the target of 14 Km. Ouch! But I still have a very good feeling about this one. Will it be too whimsical to have a rocket besides your coupe in the driveway?

Kogan to ship World's First Chromium OS Notebook from June 7 for $442

Kogan-Agora-1.jpg
Those who have been long raring for a Chromebook could have frowned when Toshiba dropped it off its roadmap. But other tech giants didn’t budge and continued to maintain the “very soon” status for their versions of Chrome OS laptops. And here we are with Australian big wig Kogan putting shipping dates for their factory fresh Agora Chromium notebooks. The specs of this 11.6” notebook aren’t exactly charming but it’s still good enough to get things rolling.

Under the hood we have a 1.3GHz Celeron M ULV (ultra-low voltage) CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM in the basic version ( upgradeable to 4GB), Intel GS40 chipset (GMA 4500MHD) with 256MB of shared memory and also 30GB SSD storage. It can stream both 720p and 1080p videos and other features include 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, 3 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, a memory card reader, and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. One of the biggest let-down here is the 3.5 hour battery life. The notebook’s biggest USP would be the fact its slick and fast for it can boot in under 5 seconds and apps, documents, and settings are all stored in the cloud. It would begin shipping tomorrow and is currently available for pre-order for Australian and UK folks for a price of AUD349 or £269 i.e. around US$442.
