Japan's largest telecom operator NTTDoCoMo has unveiled its 5th data center. The 16 storey building in Tokyo houses thousands of servers which provide cloud computing services to DoCoMo's enterprise clients. The earthquake resistant building has a special rubber isolation device which gives the building the ability to sway almost 60 cms from the base without causing any permanent damage. Apart from UPS it also has standby generators to power the servers in case of any electricity outage. Built to maintain a small carbon footprint it makes use of LED lights and rain water harvesting. A special concrete is used which uses thermal insulation to keep the air conditioning bills to a minimum.
