We expected this to come soon but
Nokia still did all it could to
swallow the rice-balls and fruit
hurled at them from Samsung and
Apple, who have been hot on their
heels. The title of being the single
dominant retailer in smart phone
volume sales has been just about
up for grabs recently. Finally it
has hit the Nokia base with a loss
of £424 million. There has been a
heavy, 34% drop in the sales of
smart phones from the maker,
pulling Nokia to third place,
behind the new big-guns in the
smartphone industry. Stephen
Elop of Nokia confidently stated,
"I believe our actions to mitigate
the impact of these challenges
have started to have a positive
impact on the underlying health
of our business."
So there is some light at the end
of the tunnel, and Elop agrees,
"Most importantly, we are making
better-than-expected progress
toward our strategic goals." We’re
still waiting for the Windows-
powered phones to fully grip us.
