After a long-awaited wait, the Shuriken ultra-thin panel technology finally showed up at Computex 2011, with manufacturers like Taiwan-based Compal Electronics and Acer using these for their laptops. Developed by Korea-based LG Display, these screens allow 14.1-inch panel laptops to go slim and trim, with chassis as thin as those of 13.1-inch models! The Acer TravelMate that uses the Shuriken screen boasts a panel frame measuring just 8mm. however, given the fact that the technology is expensive, buyers will be shedding out a lot more for Shuriken-based laptop computers.
All in all, a slimmer laptop seems fit for the purpose it’s meant to serve, helping decrease weight and making it a lot easier to carry around. A 50% hike in costs though can turn off a load of potential buyers.
